CYBERBULLYING

Last week I was made aware of post being made about a company that I have done business with for years. The posts were very damaging to the companies reputation. I asked the person making the posts to prove their accusations about the business and its owner, only to be brushed off because I would not simply take her words as fact. I then warned her that her actions were ileagal and that she could be charged criminally; she read the law on cyberbullying and erroneously concluded that she could not be charged. Her interpretation of the law was not accurate. Cyberbullying occurs when people, primarily children, use social media, the Internet, or other forms of communication to intimidate, harass, threaten, or belittle others. Though many people don’t realize it, cyberbullying can have serious legal consequences. In Texas, acts of bullying and cyberbullying are covered under several different laws. While some of these laws apply only to students and lead only to school-related punishment, others apply to everyone within the state and can result in criminal penalties.

If you have been harrassed, belittled, threatened or intimidated on social media while living in Jefferson County, Texas please tell us about it. We would appreciate know exactly who the bullies are on social media. If you do not want to sharel your experience with us, please inbox me on FB. You can also send an article to this online newspaper that will share your story with the world. Thankyou Mr. Goudeaux for this opportunity.
