po·et·ic jus·tice
pōˈedik ˈjəstəs/
noun
the fact of experiencing a fitting or deserved retribution for one's actions.
It seems that Rich Macke, Publisher of The Port Arthur News has a serious problem with the recent actions and decisions of the Porrt Arthur City Council. He continues to second guess the citizens of this city and those elected by them to lead this city. The only things Mr Macke supports are issues that are brought to council and are supported by special interest groups such as Carl Parkers, Unite Port Arthur Political Action Committee.
In a recent article of the Port Arthur News, there was a story published by Mr. Macke that accused the council of being short sighted and wrong for ending their relationship with Mr. Parker as a lobbyist for the city. It also states that certain members of our council do not understand the value and importance of having Mr. Parker duplicate the services provided by the TML, State Representative Joe Deshotel and our cities legal departement. Mr Mackes accusations are not accurate and it is obvious that he is not aware of the details. Mr. Parkers was once a Senator, and yes he did at one time know the ins and outs of the State Capitol, but that was many moons ago, before he lost his seat during the time of the HAPPY TIMES VIDEO scandal accured in the early 80's, which involved drugs, pornography and prostitution. Mr. Parker was not indicted but he did not ever serve as a legislator again, ending his 32 year run as a legislator.
To even think that he would still have any influence would be ludicrous at best. Mr Mackes defense of Mr. Parkers contract could be the catalyst for the poetic justice that he rightfully deserves. The Port Arthur News has a contract with the city of Port Arthur worth a considerable amount more than the contract that Mr. Parker lost. A contract worth approximately $100,000.00 a year. Since Mr.Macke does not have respect for our council or the citizens of this city, I seriously doubt if the paper will retain their contract and if the fledgling newspaper can withstand the loss of their biggest customer.
Whatever the PA News is doing for our city that is worth 100K a year, I am sure that the Beaumont Enterprise can pick up the slack and be gratefull for the contract.
